Estratégia e confiança para alcançar as meninas grávidas.
A realidade das meninas grávidas na comunidade de Oitão Preto é uma realidade de violência, abuso, e falta de conheçimento de como o corpo funciona e o que aconteçe com ele durante a gravidez.
Melanie e Mirjam, junto com a equipe de BRILHAR, encontraram uma menina de 16 anos de idade. Ela estava cheia de hematomas, e também provavelmente 3-4 meses grávida. Ela não sabia com certeza, pois não tinha ido ao médico. Quando a equipe mostrou um livro com desenhos de como um bêbe cresce e desenvolve dentro da barriga de mulher para ela e outras meninas, ficou claro que isso é tudo novo para elas. Mesmo assim, elas ficaram interessadas.
Obrigado pelas orações por uma estratégia de como alcançar as meninas grávidas nessa comunidade! Entrando lá, está ficando claro que precisamos de usar materiais creativos para ensina- e educa-las. Uma idéia é fazer cartões com desenhos do bêbe dentro da barriga para cada mês, junto com um versículo Bíblico e algo sober o projeto. É importante dâ-las algo para lembrar aquilo que falamos.
Na verdada, esse trabalho com joven mães é focalizando em restaurar as famílias àquilo que Deus as criaram para ser. A violência, as drogas, a prostituição, e a falta de estrutura leva as crianças a buscar as ruas como alternativa. Nós queremos ver as suas famílias restauradas para que elas não consideram as ruas como lugar para seu lar.
Continue lembrando esse trabalho em suas orações. Ore que nós podemos mostrar para essas meninas que nós nos importamos e que elas se importam com aquilo que falamos.

Thank you for praying for God to reveal a strategy of how we can be reaching the pregnant girls in this community! As we go in there it is becoming very clear to us that we need to use visual aids to teach them and educate them. One idea is to make cards with pictures of how the baby looks in the belly, one for each month, and on that include a Bible verse and something about the project. It is important to give them something to remind them of what we talk with them about.
Actually this work we do with these young mums is really focusing on restoring families to the way God intended them to be. The violence, drugs, prostitution, and brokenness are what drive the children to seek the streets as an alternative, and so we want to see their families restored so that they never consider the streets as a place to make their home.
Continue to remember this work in your prayers. Pray that we can show these girls that we care so much that they will care what we say.
And pray for them to grasp the acceptance of a loving God of them.

Existindo numa vida sem esperança- as mães da próxima geração.
A comunidade de Oitão Preto sempre teve um grande número de meninas e mulheres grávidas. Devido a realidade dura da comunidad, o seu dia-dia não é fácil. Essas mulheres estão no coração de Deus!
Melanie, que trabalha com meninas grávidas em Aquiraz, um trabalho que faz parte de JOCUM Fortaleza, veio para ver a realidade de Oitão Preto. O alvo dela sendo ver pessoalmente a realidade desesperada da comunidade, e ver como Deus quer que ela usa a sua experiência para alcançar as meninas que moram lá (se podemos chamar isso viver), isso sendo trabalho direto com elas, ou ajudando a passar informações aos voluntários e obreiros que trabalham fielmente na comunidade todas as semanas.
Ela compartilha um pouco da sua experiência dessa visita:
“Semana passade eu fui junto com a equipe da JOCUM que visita uma grande favela [Oitão Preto] toda semana. Fui convidada a vir para ver como eu posso ajuda-los com as jovens grávidas eles encontram lá. A favela fica próximo a uma área touristica, então muitas prostitutas e meninos de rua moram nessa favela. A situação aqui é bem dificíl. No tempo curto que eu passei lá eu encontrei pelo menos 3 meninas grávidas, muitas ainda fazendo as suas “programas” (prostituição) mesmo com as barrigas grandes; elas continuam a usar drogas (cola, solvente, crack), e não fazem prenatal (que é de graça). A menina com quem eu falei já tem 23 anos, e está grávida com o seu quarto filho. Foi óbvio que ela estava sob a influência de alguma droga e não deu a mínima da barriga grávida e aquilo que estava dentro (foram as palavras dela). Ela não tem nenhuma idéia de quanto tempo ela está grávida, mas já decidiu que ela vai simplesmente deixa a criança na maternidade do hospital. É muito claro que existe bastante trabalho a fazer aqui, e eu estou pensando e orando sobre como eu posso ajudar a equipe que trabalha aqui quasi diariamente. Infelizmente precisavamos sair cedo, pois elas começaram a brigar (físicamente). Esse mundo é totalmente diferente, e você não tem como imaginar como é sem ve-lo com seus próprios olhos. A situação aqui é muito diferente da comunidade em Aquiraz onde eu customo trabalhar, então o desafio é bem grande.”
Ore pelo trabalho com essas meninas. Elas estão dando luz a próxima geração e nós podemos impactar como essas crianças sejam criadas!

Existing in a life without hope- the mothers of the next generation.
The community of Oitão Preto has always had a large number of pregnant girls and women. Due to the harsh reality of the community, their reality is far from simple. These women are very much on God’s heart!
Melanie, who works with pregnant girls in Aquiraz, also as part of YWAM Fortaleza, came to see the reality of Oitão Preto. Her aim being to get to see for herself the desperate reality there, and see how God wants to use her experience to reach the girls who live (if you can call it living) in this community, be it working directly with them, or helping give valuable information to the staff who faithfully go into the community week after week.
Here she shares a bit of what she experienced:
“Last week I went along with the team from YWAM that visits a big favela [Oitão Preto] every week. I had been asked to come along to see how I could help them with the pregnant teens they see there. The favela is close to the tourist area, and so there are many prostitutes and street children/ teens that live in this favela. The situation here is really difficult. In the short time I was there I met at least 3 pregnant girls, often still doing their ´programs´ (prostitution) in spite of their big bellies; they’re still on drugs (glue, solvents/crack), and they’re not doing any prenatal care (which is for free). The girl I spoke to was already 23, and pregnant with her 4th child. She was obviously on some kind of substance and didn’t care a bit about her pregnant belly and what was inside it (her own words). She has no idea how long she had been pregnant, but she already decided to simply leave her child at the maternity of the hospital. It is obvious that there is a lot of work to be done here, and I am thinking and praying about how I can help the team that works in this area almost daily. Unfortunately we had to leave early as they started fighting (physically). This is a totally different world, and you can’t imagine it if you haven’t seen it with your own eyes. The situation here is very different from that of the community in Aquiraz where I am used to working, so it is a really big challenge.”
Pray for the work with these girls. They are giving birth to the next generation and we are able to impact how these children will grow up!
Pray for Melanie as she seeks God for the way forward with regards to this.
And pray that God would raise up a strong team of people to minister to these girls who don’t really live, they just exist, trapped in a life that is so dark they have lost all hope!

Meninas perdidas.
Nosso grupo de discipulado com os meninos está indo muito bem! Envolvendo as meninas está, no outro lado, sendo um pouco mais desafiante. Mesmo dizendo que querem participar, elas estão bem mais resistentes quando nós as convidamos. Nós precisamos achar uma maneira para alcança-las. Elas se encontram muito vulneráveis em muitos sentidos na comunidade.
Um bom avanço é que a Nadia tem abrindo sua casa para nós entramos e fazer um grupo com as meninas e mulheres envolvidas em prostituição. Muitas dessas meninas/mulheres moram com ela, e isso está sendo uma grande oportunidade de alcançá-las onde elas se encontram. Não é um grupo de discipulado ”oficial” ainda, mas mais uma questão de ir orar e conversar, que na verdade, é discipular, não é? Essas meninas e mulheres tem sido feridas muitas vezes e estão bem fechadas, e para ganhar a sua confiança demora! Precisamos de discernimento e estratégia para saber como fazer uma difereça em suas vidas e passar por todas as barreiras que elas tem levantado para se proteger.
Uma menina nós conhecemos faz muito tempo. O nome dela é Lisa e ela tem 19 anos. Ela está morando com a Nadia no momento. A situação familiar dela é bem complicada e ela está involvida em prostituição fazendo programa desde a sua adolescência. Agora ela está grávida e perto de dar luz. Quando nós nos encontramos com ela semana passada ela disse que passou um bom tempo em casa. Isso nos alegrou, mas também trouxe tristeza aos nosso corações em vê-la de volta. Ela explicou que era melhor para ela está em Oitão Preto quando o bêbe ia nascer, pois é mais perto de um projeto para meninas grávidas, conduzido pelo um grupo de irmãs católicas lá mesmo. Ela tem mostrado um desejo verdadeiro de mudar de vida muitas vezes, e nós esperamos que ser mãe talvez seja algo que realmente a da a força para lutar mesmo.

Our discipleship group with the boys is going very well! Involving the girls is, however, a bit more of a challenge. Even if they might voice a desire to participate in a group, they are more resistant when it comes down to it. We really need to find a way of reaching them as they are a very vulnerable part of the community in many ways.
One good development is that Nadia has opened her home for us to come in and do a group with girls involved in prostitution. Many of these girls live with her, and so it’s a great opportunity to reach them where they’re at. It’s not really a formal discipleship group, as it’s more a matter of coming in and praying and chatting, but then that is discipleship in a nutshell really. The girls and women here have a lot of hurt and are very weary, and it takes a long time to win their trust. We need real discernment and strategy to know how to make a difference in their lives and get beyond the many barriers they have put up to protect themselves.

Off to camp again!
The excitement level was sky-high as we set off for camp. 15 of the boys we have in one of our discipleship groups from Oitão Preto packed their little rucksacks, and headed off with us to camp organised together with the orphanage Davis Lar. It was an exhausting, exciting, fun-filled, and God-filled time. A fantastic opportunity to spend quality time with the boys, and invest into their lives away from the harsh environment they live in.
The orphanage is home to a few children who come from Oitão Preto whose families aren’t able to take care of them. Camp is a really precious time for those children to catch up with their friends again. One girl we’ve worked a lot with, who is very very dear to our hearts, is Camilla. Camilla has been at the orphanage for a bit over a year now, and she is an incredibly passionate girl. It was such a blessing to see her during the worship times. She was always easy to spot being the one who would sing the loudest and dance the hardest.
After three action-packed days the camp was over for this time. I think everyone agreed it had been yet another great time, in spite of some of the children being ill with colds.
Please pray for a continual growth of these boys with God. That they might be strengthened to keep going, witnesses to their families, and bringers of hope to their community.

A empolgação era grande quando nós partimos para o acampamento. 15 dos meninos do nosso grupo de discipulado de Oitão Preto arrumaram suas pequenas mochilas, e estavam indo conosco para um acampamento em conjunto com o abrigo Davis Lar. Foi um tempo cansativo, empolgante, cheio de brincadeiras, e cheio de Deus. Uma oportunidade fantástica de passar tempo de qualidade com os meninos, e investir nas suas vidas longe do ambiente duro que é o lugar onde eles moram.
No abrigo reside algumas crianças que são de Oitão Preto, que tem famílias sem condições de cria-las. O tempo de acampamento é muito precisoso para essas crianças re-ver seus amigos. Uma menina com quem nós temos trabalhado bastante, e quem nos amamos muito, é chamada Camilla. Camilla tem morado no abrigo um pouco mais do que um ano, e ela é uma menina cheia de paixão. Foi uma benção vê-la durante os tempos de louvor. Era facíl identifica-la, ela sendo aquela que cantava mais alto e dançava com mais energia.
Depois de três dias lotados o acampamento terminou. Eu acredito que todos concordaram que foi mais um tempo excelente, mesmo algumas crianças ficando gripados.
Ore que esses meninos continuam crescendo com Deus. Que eles sejam fortaleçidos a continuar, sendo testemunhos aos suas famílias, e vasos de esperança para sua comunidade.

Surfe para Cristo.
Tendo uma paixão por Deus e uma paixão por surfar, Wagner, um dos jovens de Oitão Preto decidiu começar uma escola de surfe na comunidade. Fortaleza é uma cidade de praias, e Oitão Preto se encontra quasi a beira da praia, então surfar é uma atividade muito popular entre jovens e velhos.
Sendo um homen de ação, Wagner tem conseguido patrocinadores para a escola, ele tem registardo a escola e tirado toda documentação com CNPJ e tudo, e tudo está caminhando bem. Realmente é incrível ver como Deus está trabalhando na vida dele agora que ele se tornou Cristã, e também vê-lo muito empolgado para que os outros meninos possam aprender sobre Deus também.
Toda sexta-feira nós nos reunimos com ele para fazer grupos de estudo Bíblico para mais ou menos 40 jovens. É tremendo como Deus continua abrindo portas na comunidade, e o mais importante, dando oportunidade para que todo tipo de pessoa possa ouvir sobre Jesus.

- Wagner como coordenador da escola- que ele tenha sabedoria e integridade.
- Proteção e provisão para a escola.
- Ore que enquanto nós alcançamos jovens com as Boas Novas atravez dessa escola, que nós podemos guia-los da vida de drogas para uma Vida em Cristo, e que nós podemos vincula-los com a igreja local.

Surfing for Christ.

Having a passion for God and a passion for surfing, Wagner, one of the guys from Oitão Preto decided to start a surfing school in the community. Fortaleza is a costal city, and Oitão Preto lies almost as close as you can get to the beach without being on the beach, and so surfing is naturally a very popular sport amongst young and old.
Not being one to wait around Wagner has managed to get sponsorship for the school, the school registered and it’s documentation in order, and is well on his way. It is so amazing to see how God is working in his life now he’s become a Christian, and also see how eager he is that the other kids get to learn about God also.
Every Friday we join with him to do Bible classes for around 40 young people. It’s amazing how God just keeps opening doors in the community, and more importantly is bringing opportunities for all kinds of different people to hear about Jesus.
Pray for:
--Wagner as he heads up the school- that he would have wisdom and integrity.
--Protection for the school and provision.
--Pray that as we reach young people with the Good News through this school, we can guide them away from a life of drugs and into Life in Christ, and get them linked with the local church.

”Se Ele não tivesse mudado a minha vida, eu sei que estaria morta agora!”
Camilla tinha apenas 10 anos de idade quando ela foi tirada de uma vida de drogas, exploração sexual, e violência. Agora ela mora no Davis Lar, um abrigo cristã, e com 11 anos ela tem se mostrado como uma das evangelistas mais dinámicas no lugar. Alguém visitando a filmou cantanto uma música de louvor (ela tem uma voz linda), e nós levamos a filmagem para mostrar para a mãe e a família dela. O irmão mais velho, Israel, reagiu jogando fora a sua garaffa de cola e começou a cantar. Mesmo longe ela esta impactando a sua família!
Sexta-feira levamos a Nadia, a mãe de um menino que também mora no Davis Lar, para visitar seu filho. Eles também são de Oitão Preto, e quando Camilla a viu ela veio correndo. Para nós que temos trabalhado com Camilla ao correr dos anos a transformação na sua vida é incrível. Ela era uma menina violenta e raivosa, e agora ela é uma menina que ama Jesus e tem grande paixão por Ele. Então para Nadia, que apenas lembra aquela meninazinha violenta e raivosa, a mudança deve ter parecido fora da realidade. Foi com grande autoridade que Camilla olhou Nadia nos olhos e disse: ”Mulher, você precisa sair dessa vida! Essa vida não é para você e só vai te levar a morte. Deixe Jesus te liberta como Ele me libertou. Se Ele não tivesse mudade a minha vida, eu sei que estaria morta agora!” Enquanto os olhos de Nadia se encheram de lágrimas ela pudia ver um milagre de Deus em Camilla, e também um brilho de esperança para sua própria vida. Ore que essa esperança cresça na vida da Nadia e que ela tenha a corajem de acreditar que Jesus a ama e quer perdoa-la.

“I know if He didn’t change my life I would be dead now!”
Camilla was only 10 years old when she was taken from a life of drugs, sexual exploitation, and violence. She now lives at Davis Lar, a Christian children’s home, and at age 11 has proven to be one of the most dynamic evangelists there. Someone who visited there filmed here singing a worship song (she has a beautiful voice), which we took to show her mother and family. Her older brother, Israel, reacted by throwing away his glue-bottle and starting to sing. Even from afar she is impacting her family!
On Friday we took Nadia, the mother of a boy who also lives at Davis Lar, to visit her son. They are also from Oitão Preto, and when Camilla saw her she came over. To those of us who have worked with Camilla over the years the transformation in her life is amazing. She’s gone from being a very violent and angry girl, to becoming a girl who loves Jesus and is passionate about Him. It was with great authority that Camilla looked Nadia in the eyes and said: ”Woman, you need to get out of this life! This isn’t a life for you to be living and it will just lead you to death. Let Jesus free you like He did to me. I know if He didn’t change my life I would be dead now!” As Nadia’s eyes filled with tears she could see a miracle of God in Camilla, and also a glimmer of hope for her own life. Pray that this hope would grow in Nadia's life and that she would dare to believe that Jesus loves her and wants to forgive her

Getting stuck in with both hands.
As we took the team from Hawaii into the community of Oitão Preto for 4 days, many of them were really broken by the stories they heard, yet encouraged by what God is doing.
With an increased team this year we were able to not only do medical and dental clinics, but also bring the Truth of Jesus Christ to the people. It was an amazing time of really seeing God move! A time of truly getting stuck in with the two-handed gospel. Over 150 people were treated in the medical clinics offered, and around 30 people made a personal commitment to Christ. God is at work! It was great to have the team join with us in times of prayer and worship, bringing in the Kingdom of God where darkness has reigned for so long.
Tears were shed as the team left. The community felt so loved and blessed by them, and I think it is safe to say that the team felt an immense love back from the community. Four days may be a short amount of time, but the effects are lasting.
The team has left, but God hasn’t. This Sunday the Revival church held an open air meeting in the community where they baptised 80 people.
God’s light keeps on SHINING into Oitão Preto…

Trabalhando com as duas mãos.
Entrando na comunidade de Oitão Preto com a equipe de Havai, muitos da equipe ficaram quebrantados pelas hístorias que ouviram, e no mesmo tempo encorajados pelo aquilo que Deus está fazendo.
Com uma equipe maior esse ano, nós pudiamos não apenas ofrecer clínicas médicas e dentárias, mas também levar a Verdade de Jesus Cristo para o povo. Foi um tempo maravilhoso vendo Deus agir! Um tempo de realmente colocar em prática o evangelho de duas mãos. Mais que 150 pessoas receberam tratamento nas clinicas médicais, e mais ou menos 30 pessoas entregaram suas vidas ao Cristo. Deus está trabalhando! Foi também muito bom ter a equipe se juntando conosco em tempos de oração e adoração, trazendo o Reino de Deus para onde as trevas tem reinado por muito tempo.
Lágrimas foram derramadas quando a equipe foi em bora. A comunidade se sentiu tão amado e abençoado por eles, e eu acredito que podemos dizer que a equipe sentiu um amor imenso de volta da comunidade. Quatro dias não é muito tempo, mas o impacto premanece.
A equipe saiu, mas Deus não saiu. Esse domingo a igreja Revival teve um culto em ar livre na comunidade onde 80 pessoas foram batizados.

Com uma equipe maior esse ano, nós pudiamos não apenas ofrecer clínicas médicas e dentárias, mas também levar a Verdade de Jesus Cristo para o povo. Foi um tempo maravilhoso vendo Deus agir! Um tempo de realmente colocar em prática o evangelho de duas mãos. Mais que 150 pessoas receberam tratamento nas clinicas médicais, e mais ou menos 30 pessoas entregaram suas vidas ao Cristo. Deus está trabalhando! Foi também muito bom ter a equipe se juntando conosco em tempos de oração e adoração, trazendo o Reino de Deus para onde as trevas tem reinado por muito tempo.

SHINE in the darkness.
The work in Oitão Preto has really had a great boost since Andrew and Claudia started up a full-time work there in April. "SHINE" is the very appropriate name of the project, as that is what our heart is to do there: Shine the love, truth, and life of Jesus into every single life in the community, and see it transformed for the glory of God.
Even if it is still early days, we are seeing the community respond to us in an amazing way. The main focus as we start is to form discipleship groups with the young people in the community. We already have several groups for children and teenagers, and one women's group. It's great to see God move in these young people's lives and see them receive the truth and life of God which strengthens them to stand up against the strong influence of drugs and violence which they have to face every single day.
During Carneval this year we took 10 of the children in the community to a camp for 5 days at a Christian children's home which is about an hour's drive outside the city. It was amazing to see them respond to the positive environment and really be changed. One boy told us the last day that he'd felt joy for the first time in his life. Powerful words from a 12 year old. As we drove back to the community most of them were crying because they wanted to stay longer. On arrival some of the parents were very welcoming, whereas others were too busy doing drugs or too drunk to really welcome their excited sons home. This month we are taking another group, and we are praying that God would really impact them in a great way again, and that the temporary change from their home environment, can cause permanent, positive change in their lives. Please pray for them!
BRILHAR na escuridão.
O trabalho no Oitão Preto tem realmente ido para frente desde Andrew e Claudia começaram um trabalho intergral na comunidade em abril. ”BRILHAR” é o nome bem apropriado para esse projeto. Nosso desejo é Brilhar o amor, a verdade, e a vida de Jesus em cada vida na comunidade, e vê-las transformados para a glória de Deus.
Mesmo cedo, estamos vendo a comunidade responder muito bem. O foco principal nesse começo é formar grupos de discipulado para as crianças e os jovens. Nós já começamos various grupos para crianças e adolescentes, e um grupo para mulheres. É maravilhoso ver Deus agindo nessas vidas e vê-los recebendo a verdade e a vida de Deus, que os fortaleçam a tomar posse contra as influências fortes de drogas e violência que eles enfrentam todos os dias.
